Rabbi Robin Sparr

Rabbi Robin Sparr (she/her) enjoyed a long career as a cantor, including three years of High Holy Days at TEMV, before becoming our spiritual leader and education director in 2015. She is delighted to have begun her rabbinic career in TEMV’s warm, diverse, and inclusive community.

Rabbi Sparr’s love of teaching and of Judaism led her to initially pursue a career as a religious school teacher and youth advisor, and has continued to inform her vision and purpose in her work as a cantor and rabbi. She brings patience, sensitivity and insight to her work with both children and adults of all ages and every background and ability.

The daughter of an interfaith couple, Rabbi Sparr attended Modern Orthodox yeshiva at S.A.R. Academy and Westchester Hebrew High School, and is a graduate of the Young Musicians program at the Hebrew Arts School for Music and Dance in New York City. She holds a B.S. Ed, and completed coursework at Hebrew College, was mentored by local luminaries, and participated and presented at numerous conferences before returning to school to receive her rabbinic ordination in 2014.

An accomplished guitarist, Rabbi Sparr sets a participatory mood with her up-to-date repertoire of singable melodies while preserving cherished traditional settings. During two decades of cantorial work, she enjoyed directing children’s, adult, senior and intergenerational choirs, developing meaningful music curricula for religious school, and training adults and children to leyn torah.

For the past 25 years, Rabbi Sparr has guided unaffiliated families through life-cycle ceremonies such as weddings and baby-namings, and prepared children (and adults) for bar/bat mitzvah.

As she begins her 10th year with our community, Rabbi Sparr looks forward to continuing her collaboration with the TEMV community to increase our connection to Torah, Judaism, Tikkun Olam, and to one another, both within and beyond our temple walls.
