Selichot Service
Saturday, September 16, 8:00 p.m.
On the Saturday evening preceding the High Holy Days, Jews gather for Selichot, penitential prayers and poems, in preparation for the High Holy Days. But a service of Selichot (which means “forgiveness”) is much more than that. This unique service is a sort of “warm-up” for the Days of Awe, and includes an overview of some of the most important musical and liturgical motifs of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. It helps us to reflect upon the year just ending, and focus our intention for the year ahead. A central aspect is seeking forgiveness, not only from The Merciful One, but also from those we may have offended, and, importantly, from ourselves. Rabbi Sparr will lead a musical, thoughtful, interactive Selichot service and study program.
This service will only take place if at least 10 people indicate they are attending. Kindly rsvp to rabbi@temv.org to let us know if you plan to join us!

High Holy Days: Step right up (to the bimah)!
Opportunities abound for individuals to light candles, open the ark, hold a Torah, chant a few lines of Torah, or lead a short prayer or reading. Board members will soon be reaching out, but if you’d like a specific honor, please sign up early with president@temv.org.
Scroll of Remembrance
TEMV is continuing the Yom Kippur tradition of honoring our loved ones with a Scroll of Remembrance, giving us the opportunity to be more reflective during the High Holy Days as it reminds us of our connections to loved ones. Contact phebe@temv.org or (978) 256-2855 with the names and the exact wording of how you want them remembered. The default wording is:
Name of loved one
Remembered by The XXX Family
The suggested donation is $5 per name. If this causes a hardship for you, please give what you feel you can.
High Holiday Food Collection
Please return your bags with non-perishable food (and also leave new unfilled paper bags) for this annual collection of food for people and their pets. Leave the bags in the lobby.
